Accessories

Of all sportsmen, perhaps ice fishermen get the most benefit from snow vehicles. Tent and ice-fishing gear can be packed on the vehicle, driven right to the fishing site.

In addition to the sale of snowmobiles, complete lines of accessory items ranging from special snowmobile suits and boots to fancy tag-along cutters (sleighs) are also available. Naturally, special trailers for toting a snowmobile behind the family car have proved a boon to city residents.

The typical sports snowmobile was a two-passenger unit powered by a 2-cycle gasoline engine from 12 to 35 horsepower. Some are started manually; others have electrical starters. The track is usually one-piece of molded poly- urethane, although some tracks also have steel cleats. Reverse gears and headlights (which make them legal for on-road travel) are standard equipment on some snowmobiles, but not on others. Gas tank capacities range from 4 to 10 gallons. Nearly all snowmobile owners find that it is eventually necessary to have a snowmobile trailer; however, it might be the same trailer that is used for hauling luggage, camping gear, or a small boat in summer.
